June Rucking Challenge

D-Day Ruck

The Challenge:
Ruck 25 miles (the distance of the 5 D-Day beach).

Let's do this

June Challenge

This June we’ll put on our rucks while we remember and honor to events that transpired on and around June 6, 1944, “D-Day.”

As part of Operation Overlord, the D-Day landings on the coast of Normandy were given the code names Utah, Omaha, Gold, Juno, and Sword.

For this challenge, you will ruck the distance of the beach landing zone. You will also have specific tasks associated with each beach.

UTAH – 3 mile ruck. Strong currents swept the first wave of troops into a more lightly defended sector of the assault area. Light doesn’t mean easy. Ruck these miles as fast as possible.

OMAHA – 6 mile ruck. This landing suffered the greatest casualties with 2,400 dead or missing. Ruck these miles in silence.

GOLD – 5 mile ruck. Due to wind, tides, and enemy fire, the demolition teams could not clear the underwater obstacles, resulting in 20 landing crafts striking mines. Pour some water on yourself and ruck these miles wet.

JUNO – 6 mile ruck. The first hour was particularly brutal on Juno, with a casualty rate approaching 50 percent for the leading assault teams. For the first hour of your ruck, stop every 5 minutes and perform 10 push-ups.

SWORD – 5 mile ruck. Modified tanks known as “funnies” were used at Sword to aid in the landing. Carry your ruck in any modified way other than on your back.

For this challenge, you must complete each beach’s assigned miles in one attempt. Multiple beaches can be rucked in a single day, but this is not required.

New Ruckers:

Ruck one beach at a time.

Experienced Ruckers:

Attempt rucking multiple beaches in one day.

Crazy Ruckers:

Ruck all the beaches in 1 day.

Ruck Clubs:

Pick one beach challenge and perform that ruck as a group.

Bonus:

Listen to The Longest Day while you ruck.
